Below are different ways to display Google reviews on your site. Click through each option to see what you like best!

RECOMMENDED

Option 1: Google Place Embed

Shows ALL your Google reviews in an interactive, scrollable widget. Customers can read reviews, write their own, and see your location. This is the most complete and professional option.

Quick Setup: To get your embed code:
  1. Go to your Google Business Profile
  2. Click the "Share" button (or three dots menu → Share)
  3. Select "Embed a map" tab
  4. Copy the entire iframe code
  5. Replace the placeholder iframe below with your copied code

This method requires NO API key! The embed code from Google Maps works directly in your website.

Solution B: Google Maps Embed API - Programmatic embed (requires separate client-side API key)

Advanced Setup Required: This requires creating a separate API key for client-side (browser) use:
  1. Go to Google Cloud Console → Credentials
  2. Click "+ CREATE CREDENTIALS" → "API key"
  3. Click "RESTRICT KEY"
  4. Application restrictions: Select "HTTP referrers" (NOT IP addresses - this is for browser use!)
  5. Add these referrers:
    • https://bakersfield.academy/*
    • https://www.bakersfield.academy/*
  6. API restrictions: Select "Maps Embed API" (or "Maps JavaScript API" + "Maps Embed API")
  7. Click "SAVE"
  8. Copy the new API key and add it to application/config/google_api.php as $config['google_maps_client_key']
✅ Pros: Shows ALL reviews, interactive map, professional, official Google widget, includes "Write a Review" button, Solution A requires NO API key setup
❌ Cons: Takes up more vertical space, includes map (may not be needed), Solution B requires separate client-side API key with HTTP referrer restrictions
